JSW Ratnagiri (Zone 2)

"The vision was to maximize community living by creating an energetic and closed knit community. A compact township was planned with its city center at a quarter mile radius walking distance"

The proposed master plan for this township consists of 5000 housing units spread over 640 acres.

The zone 2 plan consists of housing units for officials and staff members of the Power plant and Port. The brief given required the provision of 2BHK & 3 BHK units & bungalows.

Our mission was to create a socially active, joyous, safe and compact township that is in harmony with nature.

The 1st phase housed 150 families with a town centre and temple. The township is located on a plateau about 85m from sea level, hence all the housing units get a beautiful sea view. With a proposed coastal highway along the existing road on site, the land available along the west was narrow. Hence it was proposed to shift the highway further east, which would not only make sufficient land available for the township at a stretch, but also keep heavy traffic away from the housing units.

The town centre located at the end of the main approach road overlooks a beautiful beach. A Ganesh Temple is designed on the right side of the approach road. The housing clusters are within 5 minutes walking distance from the towncentre, with designated pedestrian walkways connecting the two.

The look and feel of the township was inspired by the local vernacular architecture & elements from the portugese style of architecture at the behest of the clients. Arched windows, railings, and mangalore tiled roofs helps blend the township with the surrounding rural landscape.
