The Franco Indian Pharmaceuticals factory is a state of the art facility for the production of oral liquids in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The built form consists of the plant for producing oral liquids, a warehouse for storage, a canteen block for staff and ancillary facilities.

Based on the clients brief the factory is designed as a contemporary and modern solution with a low maintenance and dust free interior.

The focus of the project is to create an environment where all the users - owners, managers and workers and processes flourish and grow. The proposal attempts to bring in maximum daylight to enhance efficiency whilst reduce heat gain to ensure thermal comfort of the workers within.

The building is wrapped by a multifoliage screen at a distance of 2 m from the main façade. Flowering seasonally this living breathing green wrap is not only aesthetic but also performative in its function. It filters the incoming sunlight and significantly reduces heat gain within the facility whilst effectively shading the interiors.

The canteen block – a social breakout space for the workers is designed as a two-storied block amongst lush green and landscaped terraces.
